Hey You

Mind wandering along the walk.
Up the steps, step, step, step
Focusing on nothing and everything
Watching some kids pick up cigarettes Off the ground to smoke
Thinking, "No don't do that! That's nasty!"
And it is bad for you

Eyes catch a glimpse of beauty
In the form of blue and white athletic shorts And a gray sweater
Coming out of the library I am entering
Hey, how you doing?
Lips form a smile and heart increases speed

Hey, you!!!

Walks past, close enough to touch
Turn back to get one last glance
He is looking back too, smiling liking what he sees
Feet don't stop moving, distance grows

We turn and walk backwards enjoying
The sight of whatever the attraction is
Some odd reason neither stops
We just smile and keep looking at what we could have
He reaches the bottom and I, the top
No more looking back.
